The Democratic Party of Korea will vote on the special prosecutor's bill to investigate President Yoon Seok-yeol's sedition charges and the special prosecutor's bill for Ms. Kim Gun-hee at the plenary session of the National Assembly today (the 12th). The opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, passed the two special prosecutor's bills alone in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly yesterday. The special prosecutor's bill for sedition is intended to investigate the illegality of President Yoon's declaration of martial law on December 3, and the ruling and opposition parties were excluded from the special prosecutor recommendation body. Instead, the head of the National Court Administration, the president of the Korean Bar Association (KBA), and the president of the Korean Law Professors Association each recommended one person, and the president appointed one of these three. The Democratic Party separately proposed a permanent special prosecutor's bill related to the declaration of martial law, and this bill was passed at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 10th. The opposition party is also planning to speed up the recommendation of candidates for the permanent special prosecutor. The special prosecutor's bill for Ms. Kim requires a special prosecutor to investigate Ms. Kim's suspicions of stock price manipulation and bribery of luxury bags. This law passed the National Assembly plenary session three times before, but was returned to the National Assembly after President Yoon exercised his right to request reconsideration (veto), and was rejected in a reconsideration vote and scrapped.
