On average, women develop lung cancer at the age of 69 and men at the age of 70. Every year around 35,000 men and 20,000 women in Germany develop lung cancer. It is one of the most common types of cancer and has a poor prognosis because it is often diagnosed late: the relative 5-year survival rate is around 20 percent for women and as low as 15 percent for men. This means that compared to the average healthy population, for example, out of 100 lung cancer sufferers, only 20 or 15 are still alive after 5 years. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in men, and the second most common in women. In many cases, the symptoms only appear in a later stage of the tumor and are sometimes attributed to other diseases. The most important risk factor for lung cancer is cigarette smoking. Long-term smokers in particular have a much higher risk of developing the disease than non-smokers. What is lung cancer? Lung cancer refers to malignant tumors that develop from the lung tissue. In many cases, this occurs specifically in the cells of the alveoli and the cells that line the airways. In principle, lung cancer can develop anywhere in the lungs, although most tumors are discovered in the upper parts of the lungs. From a medical perspective, lung cancer is also referred to as bronchial carcinoma. Lung cancer is essentially divided into two types: "small cell lung carcinoma" and "non-small cell lung carcinoma". The classification is based on the size of the various cancer cells found. The prognosis for small cell lung carcinoma is significantly worse than for non-small cell lung carcinoma. The first signs: symptoms of lung cancer Lung cancer often only causes symptoms in advanced stages. This delays the diagnosis of the disease and makes treatment more difficult. The symptoms of lung cancer are varied, but also occur in numerous other diseases. There is no symptom pattern that clearly indicates lung cancer. Depending on the location and spread of the tumor in the lungs, chest cavity and metastases in the body, lung cancer can manifest itself through different signs. This makes early detection all the more important. Treatment of lung cancer As with almost all other types of cancer, early diagnosis of lung cancer significantly increases the chances of survival and recovery, at least statistically speaking. Which treatment options are relevant in each individual case depends on the type and size of the tumor, whether it has already formed metastases and the general health of the affected person. In the video I name four possible treatment options for lung cancer: 1) surgery, 2) chemotherapy 3) radiotherapy and 4) immunotherapy. ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With “Video Visit Dr. Weigl” you have found the current and medical-scientific channel that describes topics relating to pain, #medicine and #health in an understandable way but based on facts, guidelines and studies. ▬ Even more videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The most important risk factor for lung cancer: Smoking: https://bit.ly/Rauchen_Video Risk factor alcohol and the consequences for health and the liver: https://bit.ly/Alkohol_Video COPD: More than just a smoker's cough: https://bit.ly/COPD_Video Plain text!
