This is the post-industrial heart of Poland, which in a short time transformed from a small village into a dynamically developing center of the textile industry. Today, Łódź delights with its unique architecture, street art and dynamic cultural life. It also offers many attractions related to the short but very interesting history of the city. Piotrkowska Street, the longest shopping street in Europe, is a living architectural gallery with beautiful tenement houses, which house numerous restaurants. Right next to it is Pasaż Róży, known for its unique mosaic of pieces of mirrors, creating a unique visual effect. Walking further, you can come across OFF Piotrkowska, a center of creativity and design, where former factory buildings now house art studios, boutiques and bars. Those of you who like to explore cities along the gastronomic trail will be delighted. It is also worth visiting Manufaktura, a retail and service complex that was built on the site of the former Izrael Poznański factory. It is an ideal place for shopping, but also for learning about the history of the Łódź textile industry. The Museum of the Factory is also nearby, offering insight into the life and work of Łódź workers. Our sightseeing area in Łódź also includes Poznański Palace. This impressive building, a testament to the former glory of Łódź manufacturers, today serves as the Museum of the City of Łódź, presenting exhibitions related to the history of the region. Lovers of greenery in Łódź will find many parks where you can relax from the hustle and bustle of the city. The most popular is Park Źródliska with a beautiful palm house, where a light exhibition is organized in the winter. Another attraction of Łódź is Księży Młyn, a factory and residential complex of the Scheibler family, an example of 19th-century industrial architecture, which delights with its atmosphere and history. It is home to the Museum of Cinematography, with which the history of Łódź is closely connected. We can see interesting exhibitions here, which are organized in the magnificent Scheilber residence. The Herbst Palace, built for the daughter of a factory owner and her husband, is also nearby. A tour of Łódź also includes a visit to the EC1 Science and Technology Centre, which was set up in a former power plant. It has been transformed into a cultural and scientific space offering a variety of attractions and exhibitions. EC1 Łódź is home to the Science and Technology Centre, Planetarium, the Centre for Comics and Interactive Narration and the National Centre for Film Culture. Łódź also has a rich Jewish history, which began in the late 18th century. This community grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest in Europe. During the Holocaust, the city's Jewish population was concentrated in the Bałuty district, where a ghetto was established. It is worth visiting the Old Jewish Cemetery on Bracka Street, which is one of the largest in Europe. Another important place is Radegast, a railway station that was the point of deportation of Jews to concentration camps. The Łódź City Culture Park, which is the arena for many cultural events, concerts and festivals, cannot be missed either. Among them, the Lightmove Festival stands out, a festival of kinetic light art that attracts many tourists every year. To sum up, Łódź is a city full of contrasts, where history intertwines with modernity, and every corner hides something extraordinary. Of course, Łódź has many abandoned and neglected buildings, but it also offers many beautiful places with a great history. xxx https://poznajekraje.pl/ / poznajekraje / poznajekraje [email protected] xxx Sources of photos used in accordance with the Creative Commons license: By Michał Węzowski - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index...
