This week, VEJA S/A interviews Marcelo Paz, CEO of the Fortaleza football club. The business administrator was president of the club between 2017 and 2023, when he left the position and took over the command of the team's SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol). In an interview with the VEJA S/A program, the executive explains that Fortaleza decided not to sell the majority control of the business and is prepared to sell shares on the market — as long as they do not compromise the control of the company. Paz also stated that he is in favor of the so-called financial fair play and said that the example of Corinthians, which has debts of more than 2 billion and made astronomical signings to avoid relegation, is not healthy for Brazilian football. He also talks about the proposal he received from the club and the possibility of leaving Fortaleza. The executive is also the president of Liga Forte União (LFU), which negotiates the broadcasting rights of 33 Brazilian clubs, and defended the division of rights between different open and closed television channels and streaming services. Negotiations with Grupo Globo, the betting offensive in Brazilian football and the controversial calendar of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) are also topics of the program.
