In the late 1980s, a multitude of banks emerged in Brazil due to the economic plans that were being implemented. Most of them fell by the wayside, but one of them not only managed to survive but is undergoing a major transformation in its business model: Banco ABC Brasil. We interviewed Sergio Lulia, who has been with the bank since 1991 and has held the position of CEO for the last 5 years. The conversation was a true lesson in how the Brazilian banking system works and revealed why so many banks went bankrupt, why foreigners were never able to establish themselves here and why digital banks were able to overcome this entry barrier. P.S.: Our partner and analyst, Matheus Soares, explained why ABC Brasil shares are part of the MARKET MAKERS FIA fund portfolio. 00:00 Opening 01:16 Presentation 04:08 Who is Sergio Lulia? 10:21 How do banks work? 14:08 What does Banco ABC do and why don't people outside the market know about it? 21:09 An analysis of Banco ABC, by Matheus Soares 24:13 The history of the bank 38:43 The impact of the Arab Spring 44:51 How the company retains top talent 50:12 Banco ABC's major differentiators 53:14 The new market for mid-sized companies 1:05:08 How high can Banco ABC's ROE go? 1:13:13 How the economy is affecting companies 1:22:52 The effects of the success of digital banks 1:29:49 Why have so many bank CEOs already worked in the treasury department? 1:32:07 Sergio Lulia's legacy 1:39:53 Ping Pong: books for the Market Makers Library, music for the MMakers playlist, who you would like to see on MMakers and some other quick questions - - - - - - - - Understand once and for all HOW BANKS WORK (with the CEO of ABC) Market Makers #86 Presented by: Thiago Salomão (@_salomoney) and Matheus Soares (@maatssoares) Guest: Sergio Lulia Jacob (CEO of ABC Brasil) Edited by: Bianca Barsotti Advertise on Market Makers: https://sl.mmakers.com.br/mmk03t-cone... #THIAGOSALOMAO #MARKETMAKERS #BANKS #BANCOABC #BANKINGSETOR #CEO
