About :

The passionate “Last Round” by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov was directly inspired by Astor Piazzolla. In Golijov’s own words: “I composed Last Round (the title comes from a short story by Julio Cortázar about boxing) as an imaginary chance for Piazzolla’s spirit to fight one more time. The piece is conceived as an idealized accordion. It has two movements: the first represents the act of a violent compression of the instrument and the second a final endless sigh. But Last Round is also a sublime tango dance. Two quartets face each other, separated by the focal double bass, with violins and violas standing as in traditional tango orchestras.
