This story took place at the beginning of the 21st century in the Pankisi Gorge. Gang formations were gathering on the border of the Republic of Ichkeria and Georgia. At one of the border outposts it becomes known that some militant forces are planning to illegally cross the Russian-Georgian border. Border guard captain Merkuriev takes up defensive positions on one of the passes and, at the cost of his fighters' lives, detains and disperses the militant detachment. The forces are not equal and Merkuriev is seriously wounded. In this battle, Merkuriev finds an enemy with whom he will have to face more than once. This is Hasan, the leader of a terrorist group...
