At the end of the 1980s, the band Kolompos appeared in the Hungarian folk music scene. In the beginning, they became known as a dance hall band, accompanying dance ensembles, and soon they popularized Hungarian and Carpathian folk music from Sweden to Sicily, from Canada to Japan at their independent concerts. In December 1990, a significant turning point occurred in the life of the young band. They were invited to hold a dance hall in a kindergarten, which eventually turned into a musical-storytelling, playful-dancing fun. In view of the great success, a sequel was born in January, so a few months later a series from vintage to Pentecost was completed, in which folk customs are presented to the little ones in the previously mentioned playful way, seasoned with lots of fun. In the following years, they expanded their program offering with musical fairy-tale plays, so soon after kindergartens, schools, cultural centers and theaters opened their doors to the Kolompos group, which reworked Hungarian folk traditions in a new way, invited the audience to play, and often made adults laugh as well. By the turn of the millennium, the team's current form was formed, and from then on, a new publication appeared almost every year, in the form of a CD, DVD or storybook. As one of the most popular ensembles among Hungarian children, they still strive today, as in the beginning: to make children and their parents familiar with and fall in love with Hungarian folk music, folk dance, old folk customs, that is, all the unique cultural treasures that our ancestors left us as a legacy.
