When you spend some time in the world of Fanfics, like me — who has been writing since 2013/2014. You notice some errors that are typical, if not exclusive, of fanfics that do not appear in more formal literature: such as books. In this video I talk about which errors make your fanfic look amateurish. Error number 1: This is one that I have mentioned several times here on the channel. The famous “Point of view”, “POV” or whatever you prefer to call it. I am particularly against the use of “Povs”. Not the act of changing points of view, but the writing of the word “POV” followed by the character’s name. Example 1: Chapter 1 POV MARIA *Walking down the street POV JOÃO *I left the house and saw Maria Honestly, this screams amateurism. In addition to making it obvious that the writer has no command of basic techniques, since he could solve everything by simply saying “Maria was walking down the street when João, leaving the house, saw her.” it also messes up the layout for reading. I have never read a book in which it said “POV” to announce the change of narrator, because professional writers have various tricks to warn the reader that the narrator has been changed, without necessarily warning them so blatantly (as in example 1). I also note that this is not a phenomenon exclusive to “POV”, but that it has also affected “Flashback” which for some reason they decided to announce with: “Flashback on” “Flashback off”.
