Last weekend, I was giving a talk to about a hundred managers and executives and something quite incredible happened to me. I have given over 1,000 talks since I started this job, and I often end them with a question and answer session. Here, the theme of the talk was the positive changes that managers can make thanks to this very special post-pandemic period. I love debate, really. Sometimes people don't agree with what I said, and fortunately, in debate we grow. But then, a man stands up, visibly angry, very angry... and what followed was a speech of rare aggression, not to say violence, not only against my speech, but also against me personally... I must say that after 14 books, over 1,000 talks, I never expected to be called a buffoon. How do you handle this kind of situation? 1️⃣ Always keep calm 2️⃣ Stay factual, don't let your own emotions get the better of you 3️⃣ Try to have a one-on-one with the person at a later stage Yes... I followed these three steps... But I have to admit that the result of this one-on-one left me speechless, literally. In the end, this experience was fantastic, although a little traumatic. Which just goes to show that even at 52, we're still learning about human nature.
