Useful tips for photographing the landscape in Abruzzo, in Rocca Calascio, with its extraordinary views and the magical Ladyhawke castle. I couldn't wait to get to Calascio to climb up to the castle, the winding road runs along large mountains and offers incredible panoramic views that enter your heart... a paradise for every photographer. The magic, therefore, begins even before arriving at the castle. From the small village of Calascio a path climbs steeply, about 20 minutes which if done in the afternoon of August becomes exhausting. As I got closer to the castle the number of people wandering around increased... useless journey, I told myself, today I won't be able to take pictures, too many tourists. Once at the top, the castle faded into the background... I was struck by the great views that from Rocca Calascio extend towards Campo Imperatore and towards Corno a Grande. The conditions were totally unfavorable for landscape photography, lots of backlighting, fog and little color. Then I tried to reverse the situation by playing on the disadvantages… Watch the video and the photos and let me know what you think. TIPS Rocca Calascio is best photographed in the afternoon until sunset, at least I prefer it that way to have soft light, soft backdrops and maybe a beautiful sunset. The ideal would be to arrive before dawn and stay until sunset. It's not always possible but a place like this has an infinite number of subjects that vary with the changing light.
