SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL BY CLICKING THE LINK BELOW: / @technologycursosoficial One of the most important functions of the capacitor is that of a damper. In this series of two lessons, you will learn how the damper capacitor works in the circuits of various electronic equipment. The damper capacitor performs three primary functions in electronic circuits: 1) Dampens peak currents; 2) Keeps the DC supply voltage stable, without ripples; 3) Eliminates interference. 1) Dampening peak currents: When the circuit is energized, the damping capacitor is empty and therefore behaves like a short circuit. Thus, the initial current does not flow through the integrated circuit to which the damping capacitor is connected, but rather through the capacitor. Over time, the damping capacitor tends to charge and, since the charging voltage is continuous, it prevents the current from flowing when it is fully charged. Once charged, the damping capacitor supplies its stored energy between the plates to the integrated circuit to which it is connected. Note that the process of charging the damping capacitor prevented the initial current from flowing through the integrated circuit, freeing it and preserving its internal circuits. 2) Keeping the DC supply voltage stable: Once charged, the damping capacitor will maintain its constant charge, contributing to the stability of the supply voltage at the pins of the integrated circuit, preventing oscillations in it. 3) Eliminating interference: Manufacturers generally use high-capacity and low-capacity capacitors on the same power supply line as the integrated circuit. High-capacity capacitors will act as buffers for high variations in DC voltage, while low-capacity capacitors will act on low variations. In addition, both high- and low-capacity capacitors also help eliminate interference (harmonics) from the power supply that is producing the voltage. You can check the action of the buffer capacitor using a digital multimeter or an oscilloscope. Conclusion: I hope that, by the end of these two classes, you will be able to understand how the buffer capacitor can keep integrated circuits working free from fluctuations in the power supply voltage. Hello, I am Professor Valdenilton, Technical Coordinator of the Electronics courses taught by Technology Cursos. I love transforming people's lives through teaching.
