In Spain, a hip fracture occurs every 11 minutes, that is 47,000 fractures a year. 1 in 4 patients with a hip fracture over 65 years of age dies within the first 12 months, and 50% of those who survive will see their daily activities diminished and their ability to walk reduced. Hip fracture is the leading cause of subacute disability in women over 65 years of age and the fifth in men after stroke, heart failure, cancer and pneumonia. Carmen is an 82-year-old woman who, unfortunately, falls and fractures her hip; a traumatic episode for her and her family; could we improve Carmen's experience in this situation?
