The worn-out hammer stock must first be dug out. Then the new oak trunk is placed in the bed made from clubs and horse manure and the hammer harness, consisting of the upper and lower saddle, is attached. After adjustment, the sickle blades are test-forged. We are now the only scientists in Germany to use the medium of film specifically for research and presentation. The approximately 260 film productions made over the past decades are irreplaceable documents of lost knowledge about agriculture, crafts, industrial work and the diverse regional customs. Today we use the medium of film primarily to document current processes of change and to accompany people in the Rhineland in their lives. This results in films on intercultural phenomena and problems, on changes in the world of work, on new forms of social coexistence and on dealing with rituals, customs and traditions. All film documentaries from the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History are also available on DVD.
