Teaching 2023-2024: The (genetic) adaptation of humans to new environments Course of March 1, 2024: Genetic adaptation and natural selection Professor: Lluis Quintana-Murci Chair of Human Genomics and Evolution The 2023-2024 course of Prof. Lluis Quintana-Murci aims to show how genetic studies shed light on how humans have adapted to the diversity of environmental conditions encountered during their dispersion across the planet. The physiological characteristics favoring their survival and reproduction in these varied environments can arise from genetic variations and be subject to natural selection. We will explore the different manifestations of natural selection and its role in the morphological and physiological diversity within our species, including skin pigmentation, size, the ability to digest milk, adaptation to cold or lack of oxygen, as well as other traits.
