Samuele's great-grandfather Ermenegildo Fior was murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp - but his exact fate was not finally clarified for over 80 years. During the war, Samuele's family said, he supported the resistance in Italy against the Nazi regime. He was betrayed and arrested - and then the family never saw him again. Samuele's grandmother, Ermengildo Fior's daughter, was only 6 years old at the time. 🔎 Pure coincidence ensures that Samuele finally wants to come to terms with the past: During a school project, he is working on old concentration camp files and comes across his great-grandfather's name. His search for more information begins. We met him and tried to find even more information and files. To do this, we drove to the world's largest archive for concentration camp files in Bad Arolsen - and to the memorial site of the former Mauthausen concentration camp. Our goal: to finally solve the mystery of the fate of Ermengildo Fior, Samuele's great-grandfather. 📔 Arolsen Archives: The Arolsen Archives are part of the World Documentary Heritage and have a collection of files with information on around 17.5 million people. The files contain documents on various groups of victims of the Nazi regime. The Arolsen Archives used to work as the International Tracing Service (ITS) to provide relatives with information about missing or murdered relatives. Clarifying fates - the archive has taken on this task for decades. And to this day, the archive answers inquiries about around 20,000 Nazi victims every year. The Arolsen Archives are also working on creating research and education opportunities to bring knowledge about Nazi crimes into today's society. Part of this will be a new online archive in which anyone can search for names. You can find out more about the archive here: https://arolsen-archives.org/ 💻 "Every name counts" project: The new online archive depends on the cooperation and support of all of us. That's why it's designed as a crowdsourcing project. Anyone can help index the concentration camp files, i.e. prepare them for the archive. Each file is entered into the online archive several times by different editors in order to minimize sources of error. The end result should be an archive that can be searched like an online search engine. 👉 You can find all information about the project and instructions on how to get involved here: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/c... 🎶 Music: Xinoby - Searching For Para for Cuva - Paspatou Para for Cuva - Loose Trentemøller - Take me into Your Skin Brambles - To Speak of Solitude Brambles - In the Androgynous Dark 🎞 Team: Timm Giesbers, Maik Arnold, Sabine Stadermann, Nils Schomers, Johannes Woiten, Andreas Josef, Lea Brockmann 👉 You can also find us here: Twitter: / reporter Facebook: / reporter.offiziell Instagram: / reporter.offiziell Snapchat: / 3246991136 👉 #reporter belongs to #funk: YouTube: / funkofficial Instagram: / funk TikTok: / funk Website: http://go.funk.net Experience real stories with us.
