Working on large space missions requires knowledge, skills and incredible creativity. But even the best scientific and engineering team cannot predict all the problems that may arise once the device is in space. Dr. Hab. Piotr Orleański, director of the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences, spoke about the work of his team at the Herschel Space Observatory, whose valuable research instrument almost ceased to operate a few months after the probe was launched. However, thanks to many months of work by space engineers, the device was saved. And the Herschel telescope itself provided scientists with valuable scientific data. We would like to thank the WroSpace Association, the organiser of World Space Week Wrocław, for the opportunity to use the recording.
