It was one of the rare cases when such a massive escape was successfully carried out. The initiator and mastermind of this escape, Gjiovalin Vushaj, testified for 'Dossier K', all the details of this escape, the reasons that forced him to take this step and what happened to them immediately after they crossed into Yugoslav soil, the trial that was held for the 17 members of the two families who escaped in the former Yugoslavia, and the days of prison in Belgrade. Meanwhile in Tirana, the escape had caused alarm in the high dome of the regime. A phone call to the Central Committee had sounded the alarm. August 10, 1987, was a day that would be remembered for a long time, especially by the heads of the Ministry of Interior and all other subordinate structures. They would be held accountable for the escape that had occurred right under the noses of armed soldiers...
