Fasting brings joy, light, calms the passions and selfishness in man, strengthens the mind and soul, changes our attitude and relation to those around us and to our neighbors, puts man face to face with his own weaknesses and limits and helps to sanctify human nature. Why does today's youth need fasting? To face the challenges and temptations that arise from day to day, from year to year, from post to post. He needs to know his limits and, above all, he needs to strengthen himself in those that are useful for his growth. Man has full freedom to choose how he looks and how he receives the post in his life, because we notice that society is modernizing, but God and His teachings are the same. Fasting remains a landmark and a pillar of support in the Christian's life, especially a landmark for gaining freedom in Christ. Thus, the family is the best example that the young person can have in the work and practice of the fast, but often the young person can become an example for those close to him. These are just a few aspects that I addressed in a dialogue with Father Archimandrite Nicodim Petre, abbot of the Bucium Monastery in Iași and Councilor of the Mission Sector of the Archdiocese of Iași.
