EREBOR - History of the Great Kingdom of the Dwarves (The Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit) Erebor, located in the Lonely Mountain, became a separate kingdom in the Third Age. It is reliably known that the Dwarves of Durin's line visited those lands at the beginning of the Second Age - they built settlements in the Iron Hills, which were located nearby. The role of Erebor increased after the fall of Khazad-dum, which occurred in 1981 of the Third Age: King Durin VI and his son Nain I were killed by a Balrog, the line of Durin was led by Thrain I, who convinced the Dwarves to leave Moria and go to the Lonely Mountain. The Dwarves dug huge caves in the mountain and built a majestic underground city. Thus, the year of the foundation of the Kingdom under the Mountain is considered to be 1999 of the Third Age.
