Tonight will be the best time to see the Perseid meteor shower, one of the three major meteor showers. This year, there will be no moonlight, making for ideal viewing conditions, so at the peak, we can expect to see more than 40 shooting stars per hour. As for the weather, the area will be covered by high pressure, so shooting stars are likely to be visible over a wide area, mainly in western Japan and the Sea of Japan side of Tohoku. In the Tokai and Kanto regions, where humid air from the south tends to flow in, as well as in Hokuriku, Okinawa, and Hokkaido, clouds are likely to spread, so observations will likely require hoping for gaps in the clouds. Unfortunately, for areas where it is cloudy or rainy tonight and observations are not possible, we can expect a certain number of shooting stars tomorrow night, so please look up at the sky tonight.
