In addition to all the advantages, multifocal lenses also have disadvantages and risks. We will look at these: suboptimal visual acuity or contrast vision, annoying light reflections (e.g. halos) or delayed habituation. We will show how these can possibly be prevented or compensated for if they do occur. The factors that are suitable for keeping the risks and side effects as low as possible are presented: state-of-the-art examination, measurement and surgical procedures, prior consultation and elucidation of the patient's special wishes and, in particular, the experience of the surgeon who specializes in these lenses.
