06/13/2024 - Haan Fire Department - DB tower railcar in flames - Heavy smoke development - Extensive foam attack - The Haan Fire Department was alerted to a burning tower railcar on the railway line between Gruiten and Hochdahl on June 13, 2024 at 6:07 p.m. When the first emergency services arrived, the tower railcar was burning in the rear part of the train and heavy smoke was evident from the train. The train's crew made initial attempts to extinguish the fire before the fire department arrived, but these were unsuccessful. The tower railcar was manned by 3 workers, who fortunately all remained uninjured. In order to ensure safe work on the track and on the train, the route was closed and the overhead line in the affected area was grounded. Due to the massive construction of the tower railcar, the fire could only be extinguished with foam; a fire lance was also used later on. Due to the difficult access options, the Erkrath fire department requested a trolley so that material could be transported over the track to the scene of the fire. The roll-off container for breathing apparatus was also requested from Erkrath. The Hilden fire department has occupied the Haan fire station with a firefighting team in order to be able to deal with possible parallel operations. The Haan fire department was on duty with a total of 30 emergency personnel until around 10:30 p.m. Text source: Press release from the Haan fire department Current operational photos and information can be found on the official Emergency Report Facebook page: / emergencyreport Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emergencyre...
