When building a low-rise house, outbuilding or bathhouse with your own hands from building materials using frame technology, an excellent solution for strapping the foundation is strapping with wooden beams. To give the structure strength and reliability, free-standing supports are combined into a single rigid system using a grillage. This is the foundation strapping, designed to evenly distribute the load from the building to the foundation. Strapping the foundation with timber begins with impregnating the wood with an antiseptic. This operation will help to protect it from mold and fungi in the future. The ends of the beams intended for strapping the foundation are designed in the form of grooves for connecting them "in the paw" or "in half the tree". Condensation will form on the surface of the concrete. In order to protect the wood from contact with moisture when strapping the foundation with timber, the surface of the foundation is covered with roofing felt. The timber for strapping the foundation is fastened with nails and self-tapping screws. It is advisable to reinforce all strapping joints with metal staples. As a source material, you can use a beam with a cross section of 150x150 and 100x150 mm or boards 50x150 mm assembled into a composite beam. With a distance between the supports not exceeding 2.5 meters, such a structure can easily withstand the weight of a two-story frame building.
