We are in Borghetto, a hamlet of Valeggio sul Mincio in the province of Verona, where we had been a couple of years ago to visit the beautiful Sigurtà Garden Park. Borghetto is included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy, let's see why... Perhaps because today the village is a jewel, a romantic place full of scents, flowers, plants and places among the water mills that seem to come out of a fairy tale. The Visconti Bridge of Valeggio sul Mincio is a dam-bridge built in the 14th century. In 2007 the bridge was included in the list of one hundred monuments to be saved worldwide, because it is in grave danger (World Monuments Fund). In addition to the Visconti bridge, in Borghetto there are the characteristic buildings with water mills, some of which have been put back into operation. In 1954, some scenes from the film Senso by Luchino Visconti were filmed near the wooden bridge over the Mincio. In a quarter of an hour on foot, climbing a flight of steps at the end of the village, you reach the Rocca Scaligera from which a beautiful panorama opens up. You cannot leave Borghetto without having tried the stuffed pasta in one of the restaurants, the famous local tortellini of Valeggio with very thin pastry and a braised meat filling, the white wine of Custoza or Lugana and the classic Venetian reds Valpolicella and Amarone. We did it at the Caffè Visconti on a beautiful panoramic terrace overlooking the river.
