Jarid Arraes, a writer, poet and poet from Ceará, has been exposed to cordel literature since her childhood. Her cordels, true tributes to little-known black Brazilian women in Brazilian literature and history, are best-selling books. After releasing her first book of poetry, Um buraco com meu nome (2018) by Ferina, a new literary imprint she created with publisher Lizandra Magon de Almeida of Pólen Livros, this year she released her first book of short stories, Redemoinho em dia quente (Swirl in a Hot Day) (Alfaguara, 2019).
