Bechter is a type of armour that, like many others, came to us from the East. Bechter most likely came to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth via the Muscovite state, where they enjoyed great popularity as early as the 16th century. The classic bechter consisted of miniature plates connected with a fine chainmail braid. It could be fastened on the side with buckles or leather straps, and some pieces were put on over the head, similarly to a chainmail shirt.
