A good soldier does what he has to do, regardless of the dangers and injuries. Well, actors are just like soldiers. You’ve probably heard of a number of performers who do their own stunts, but George MacKay never expected one particular scene from the 2019 war film 1917 to land him on this list. His character’s grueling sprint at the end of the film was certainly the highlight of his mission, but the actor wasn’t supposed to be getting run over by other people while running across the battlefield. The scene went through rehearsals without a scratch, but it’s hard to control every aspect of a shoot like this. As the actor told Jimmy Fallon, on the day of filming, he crashed into several passing soldiers, despite the fact that there had been no problems in any of the rehearsals. But the actor kept going until the director yelled “cut!” because he knew that at such a crucial moment in the film, he couldn’t stop filming in the middle. So he kept moving, and director Sam Mendes kept filming. He realized that deviating from the rehearsal made the scene look more natural.
