Porsche is one of the most aspirational brands… a true myth. And they are expensive… actually, not expensive… very expensive! And many of you have asked me if they are really worth what they cost. Others, more direct, have asked me if Porsches are not a rip-off… Well, let’s see! #cars #porsche Become a member of this channel to enjoy benefits: / hermetic garage I will try to be up to par, so I will also be direct. One of you, with whom I spoke face to face, openly told me that, according to him, Porsches would be a rip-off… if it weren’t for the argument that we are going to give you at the end… and that the smartest of you can imagine. For now, we are going to analyze the Porsche range that we could divide into 3 groups and two singularities. The three groups are coupes, the 718; sedans, the Panamera; and SUVs, the Macan and Cayenne. Let’s start with the singularities: First, the 911 and its wide range that goes from the “simple”, with lots of quotation marks, 911 Carrera, to the 911 GT3 RS, with other versions Carrera T, Cabriolet, Targa, Turbo and GT3 alone… from around €150,000 to around €315,000. The second singularity is the 100% electric Taycan, in “sports saloon” versions or a kind of sports Break, with powers ranging from 408 hp to 1034 hp of the “Turbo GT” version… I’m laughing my head off, what a nerve putting the surname Turbo on an electric car… we’ll live to see. The “serious” range. So for me the sensible Porsche range, if a range of cars with these prices can be called sensible, is reduced to four models: 718, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne. I'll tell you the structure of this video: Let's compare the most relevant data of three Porsches with equivalent rival models and see if they are really worth what they cost. One detail: I have put the list prices in Spain with the standard equipment... from my experience if we match the equipment... Porsche loses. Sports cars and convertibles: Porsche Boxster vs. BMW Z4 M40i As a rival to the Porsche 718 Boxster PDK I have chosen the BMW Z4 M40i. I have had the opportunity to test both cars, the Z4 courtesy of BMW and the Porsche courtesy of a member who wants to remain anonymous. For me the Porsche has two advantages, one debatable and one indisputable. The indisputable one: It weighs 11 percent less and for me, obsessed with weight, it is a considerable difference... of course, you pay for it with a low-calibre engine and less torque and power. You can't want everything. The debatable one: The central engine. Why debatable? Because, although I am a fan of the central engine, for going on the street, it does not seem to me to be a definitive advantage. True, the weight distribution is perfect, but the behaviour is more delicate, it affects the habitability and the trunk and in terms of passive safety, in case of a crash… better to have the engine in front. I have summarised the advantages of the BMW in five points that I am going to list: Engine: No comparison! More powerful and refined… and it consumes less. Performance: don't be fooled by the top speed! Usability: including space, habitability and trunk… no comparison! Discretion: Something that for some may be a defect, but for me an advantage. Price: Or better, relation between the price and what you get… because the Porsche comes “bare” and the options are expensive. So it is clear, for me it is better to buy the BMW. Large SUVs: Porsche Cayenne vs. Audi Q7 55 TFSi Quattro As a rival to the Porsche Panamera 4E-Hybrid I have chosen the Audi Q7 55 TFSi Quattro which is no less than 26 percent cheaper! A lot of money. And does the Porsche give more? It accelerates worse, has a little less trunk and 4 percent more power. The morbid thing about this comparison is that they are, in reality, almost the same car with almost the same engine, but one is 25 percent cheaper than the other. Again, with the figures in sight, it is better to buy the Audi. Sports sedans: Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid vs Mercedes Benz AMG E53 Hybrid 4 Matic To compete with the Panamera Hybrid we have gone to a car from one of the brands that makes the best hybrids: Mercedes-Benz. The chosen model is the AMG E53 Hybrid 4 Matic, which despite being an AMG, hybrid and all-wheel drive, costs 11 percent less than the Porsche… and offers much more power and much more torque. The only drawback is a slightly smaller trunk… Again, numbers in hand… the Porsche loses, again. It’s not all about numbers. I said at the beginning that one of you told me that Porsches would be a rip-off if it weren’t… I quote verbatim, “why can you rip off others.” I’m going to be more subtle and I think fairer. Let’s talk about what a car costs because I always say the same thing: It’s not worth what you pay, but the difference between what you pay and what you get when you sell it.
