About :

Ancient Greece is one of the best known and most important cultures in human history. The history of ancient Greece begins after the collapse of the Mycenaean culture in Greece. The Greeks settle down and establish city states, the so-called poleis. They are a defining feature of ancient Greece. For the ancient Greeks, the city states in which they live are their homeland. Nevertheless, in ancient Greece they see themselves as one people. The people of ancient Greece speak the same language, worship the same gods and have a common literature and culture. They meet in places that are important to everyone in ancient Greece. For example, in Delphi, where the famous oracle was supposedly able to see into the future. Olympia is also a central place in ancient Greece. This is where the Hellenes - as the Greeks call themselves - meet for the Olympic Games. From the 8th century BC, economic prosperity in ancient Greece is good and the ancient Greeks begin to build colonies outside of modern-day Greece. Many of today's major cities in southern and eastern Europe were once poleis in ancient Greece. Our current image of ancient Greece was shaped primarily by two poleis: Sparta and Athens. Sparta is a military state and only a few people have a say. In Athens, on the other hand, democracy is introduced. Athens and Sparta, together with other poleis, fend off the Persian invasion, but after the victory over the Persians, Athens and Sparta clash. The Athenian League under the leadership of Athens and the Peloponnesian League under the leadership of Sparta fought bitterly against each other for almost 30 years. This war heralded the end of ancient Greece. Mirko explains everything else you need to know about ancient Greece in this video. Novellas, summaries and grammar - all of that is a must-know?
