The Indian historian Dipesh Chakrabarty prefers to speak of the "habitability of the Earth" rather than "sustainability". He advocates decentering humans in nature and thinking in inhumane time periods. After all, humans have long since become the determining force on the planet in the "Anthropocene": Every day, around 150 species - animals, plants and microorganisms - become extinct. Floods, forest fires and droughts threaten the habitat of more than just humans. The consequences are migration, wars and resource scarcity. Chakrabarty argues that climate change has ushered in a new era in human history, which he calls the "planetary age".
