Ajyad was named after the fact that it contains sites for horse stables and Arabian horses. The area is linked to the castle, Ajyad refineries, Ajyad al-Sadd, and Ri’ Bakhsh. Ajyad is currently considered one of the streets that official delegations pass through when they visit the Haram or when they visit Al-Safa Palace, because the palace faces Ajyad district, which is an area crowded with hotels and towers. Historians divided Ajyad into two sections, saying Ajyad al-Kabir and Ajyad al-Saghir. By Ajyad al-Saghir, they mean the place known today as Ajyad al-Sadd due to the lack of an outlet. It starts from the beginning of Bab Ajyad and turns northeast and ends at the end of Jabal Khandama, which separates Ajyad and the valley of Abu Yusuf. Ajyad al-Sadd now has an outlet that connects it to the Aziziyah district. There are multiple tunnels for vehicles and others for pedestrians leading to the Grand Mosque. The borders of Ajyad start from Bab Ajyad Square, the Holy Mosque, then Ajyad Hospital, which is in the middle of the neighborhood next to the hospital, the Ashraf Buildings, which were considered in the past to be one of the most important landmarks of Ajyad. A large part of it was built overlooking Ajyad Alley, which is the King Abdulaziz Endowments Building, which is considered one of the world’s skyscrapers. Next to it is the former Egypt Hotel, and on the opposite side is the Ajyad Makarim Hotel, which took part of the former Ministry of Finance building.
