Age-related macular degeneration, or AMD for short, is a serious disease of the central retina, also called the macula or yellow spot, the area of sharpest vision in the eye. Due to deposits of metabolic end products under the retina, this eye disease causes central visual acuity to be lost. Age-related macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in older patients. In the video, eye expert Dr. med.
