Avenida Afonso Pena is one of the most important and emblematic streets in Belo Horizonte and stretches for 4.3 km. It crosses the city center, connecting the Praça Sete de Setembro area to the Praça da Bandeira area. Opened in December 1897, the same date as the inauguration of Belo Horizonte, the avenue was planned to be the city's main street and became responsible for much of the central commerce of the capital of Minas Gerais, being named in honor of the lawyer and politician from Minas Gerais, Afonso Augusto Moreira Pena. When arriving in Belo Horizonte, most tourists visit Afonso Pena to enjoy the best the capital has to offer.
