Since the Taliban regained power in Kabul in August 2021, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated considerably. Afghanistan is the world's largest producer of opium. Over the past 20 years, the Taliban and warlords have made billions of dollars from heroin exports. But it is also one of the countries most affected by drug addiction in the world. The country is ravaged by heroin, particularly its capital. Hunted in Kabul by the Taliban, thousands of drug addicts, whose addiction clashes with their fundamentalist values, are forcibly interned to undergo detoxification treatment in a clinic located in a former American base. Originally designed to accommodate a thousand patients intended for drastic withdrawal, for 45 days, the facility is now overwhelmed by the number of people sent there. Cruelly lacking in medication, the center is struggling to carry out its mission: the methadone stock is non-existent, the staff is overwhelmed, and patients are suffering from hunger.
