The best excursion destinations and sights in Dresden and the surrounding area. By bike along the Elbe cycle path from Pillnitz to Meißen with an overnight stay at a winery in Radebeul. Have you ever been to Dresden or the surrounding area? If so, do you have any other tips on what you definitely shouldn't miss? Then please write us your recommendations in the comments. We start the day on the Elbe. With rented e-bikes we cycle along the river towards Pillnitz. Here in the east of Dresden, at Pillnitz Castle, we start our tour. First of all, however, we visit Pillnitz Castle. We get to the property itself through the symmetrically laid out castle park. The Wasserpalais, Bergpalais and the Neue Palais tower all around. I find the architecture impressive. Baroque has been mixed with Far Eastern elements here. The buildings have a Chinese touch. We continue along the Elbe cycle path towards the old town. We pass the Blaues Wunder and the suspension railway. This is the oldest mountain suspension railway in the world. The railway has been in operation since 1901 and today it takes us a few meters higher to a cozy terrace with a view. From up here we can look far over Dresden, see how green the city is and can also make out the Frauenkirche. That's where we're going next. So we pedal on to the Augustus Bridge. From there we can see almost all of the top sights. We see the Semper Opera House, the Dresden Zwinger, the Court Church and Residence Palace, Brühl's Terrace and of course the Frauenkirche. On our bikes we pass the Procession of Princes. 23,000 porcelain tiles adorn the facade. They depict the princes around August the Strong. And with a length of 102 meters, the mural is the largest porcelain picture in the world. Then we pass the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger and finally reach the Frauenkirche on the Neumarkt. I find it particularly impressive that the city looks old but is not old at all. Because large parts of it were destroyed in the Second World War. And all the supposedly historic buildings have been rebuilt in great detail. Felix then takes us to one of his favorite roof terraces in Dresden. The Felix restaurant. How fitting. From up there we have a direct view of the Dresden Zwinger. Then we leave the city and cycle along the river to Radebeul. Here we pass the endless Spitzhaus staircase and climb into the vineyards. Finally we stop at the Hoflößnitz winery. And there we can also treat ourselves to a glass or two of wine, because we are staying in the guesthouse right next door. The next morning we cycle on to Meissen. The city is primarily known for the production of the famous Meissen porcelain. But a detour is also worthwhile. The Albrechtsburg castle towers majestically above the rooftops. And in the heart of the old town there are historic, pretty alleyways. Nice for a stopover. From here we get on the bike bus that takes us to Moritzburg. As we ride past we catch a glimpse of the former Moritzburg hunting lodge. The imposing building stands in the middle of a castle pond. It's really cool! Finally, we return to Radebeul and stop at Wackerbarth Castle. Here we enjoy a final glass of wine. Cheers! And see you next time!
