In the Catalan Alta Ribagorza, in a lost Pyrenean valley, we find one of the most harmonious ensembles of European Romanesque architecture, a World Heritage Site since 2000. The 9 churches in the Boí Valley are in the Lombard Romanesque style with superb buildings from the 11th and 12th centuries, which display simple exterior decoration based on blind arches and iconic bell towers with twin windows, the symbol of the valley. Inside, magnificent mural paintings bring us closer to the colourful reality of Romanesque architecture in its time, far from the bare stone we know today. ___ Luis&Ana Foto / luisyanafoto / luisanafoto
