As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the state railways experimented with conical smokebox doors and windbreaks on the driver's cabs. In the 1930s, and under the influence of diesel express railcars, manufacturers also wanted to increase the speed of steam locomotives and reduce their coal consumption. With the 03 154, systematic attempts were therefore made to encase the locomotive in a streamlined manner and to determine whether the loss of the airstream would lead to excessive heating of the drive components. The result was satisfactory and paved the way for the world record locomotive 05 001, built in 1935 and now in the museum in Nuremberg. However, the attempt to move the driver's cab to the front with the 05 003 in 1937 was unsuccessful. The conveyor technology was not able to reliably transport coal dust from the tender through the long locomotive to the furnace. Therefore, the experiment was stopped just two years later and the locomotive was turned again, losing its power shell in the process. #azett #spurz #zscale #zgauge #echellez #escalaz #skalaz #modeltrains #modellbahn #modellbahnanlage #modellbahnvideo #modelspoor #modelrailway #modelrailwaylayout
