It was the largest military operation on Dutch soil during the Second World War. However, the Battle of the Scheldt is unknown to many people. A film is now giving the battle in Zeeland extra attention. In this report, De Telegraaf speaks with actor Gijs Blom, who plays a German soldier and tries to imagine how such a soldier must have felt. In addition, eyewitness Ko de Bruijne tells how he was seriously injured as a 7-year-old boy and historian Tobias van Gent explains what exactly happened in Zeeland in the autumn of 1944.
