About :

This is Shinagawa Station in April 1971, Showa 46. On the left is the First Keihin National Highway, the elevated tracks in the middle are the Keihin Express Line, and to the right of that is the JNR station. A red train on the Keikyu siding. On either side, tracks heading towards the city centre go underground. A light green Yamanote Line inner loop train comes into view, glancing at the Tamachi Train Depot, a train depot that spreads out on the right side of the screen. Up ahead, where express and medium-distance trains await their turn, Takanawa Gateway Station opened in 2020. Takanawa Gateway was the 130th station to be named after the public, and it is said to also mean the gateway to Edo. The original Takanawa Okido was located around here. It is just over 400 meters from the station. As you can see, this is also the place where the tracks of the Yamanote Line and the northbound Keihin Tohoku Line switch, and where cars pass under the Takanawabashi overpass, which is only 1.5 meters high. In fact, until a month ago, the Yamanote Line was called Yamate-sen, but it has just been changed back to its original name. There is an area called "Yamate" in Yokohama and Kobe, but in Tokyo there is "Yamate" but not "Yamate", so it was a strange story. Passing by the side of Sadanotsuji, where the Shogunate's proclamations were posted, on the other side of the Yamanote Line is the Mita Driving School, and even further beyond that is the Mita Police Station. The driving school has closed, and the Mita Police Station has moved to the far left on this side of the tracks. We have arrived at Tamachi Station. Just then, the southbound Keihin Tohoku Line also entered. Construction is underway in front of the station and above the platform at Tamachi Station itself. In the middle, where there used to only be a passage for people getting on and off at the station, a free passage has just been built on the right. The track was laid along the coastline, but from here more than 1 kilometer was reclaimed to the sea, and many people started to travel back and forth. It circles at the then headquarters of the Three Diamonds automobile company, and is a candy manufacturer with an angel mark. The helicopter circles around Tamachi Station. If you look closely, you can see that the driving school course is two stories. We continue on, following the Yamanote Line train again. The monorail from Haneda Airport joins from the bottom right, and in the background the World Trade Center Building comes into view. The building with its prominent color TV advertisements has changed hands several times and is currently being rebuilt. The Yamanote Line is well known for its uguisu-colored trains, but originally it was canary yellow, the color of the current Chuo-Sobu Line local trains. It was uguisu-colored in 1963. The Keihin-Tohoku Line has been sky blue since the beginning when the trains were colored. The first thing that comes into view is the ward's Takeshiba Elementary School. It is now a Minato Ward welfare center called Human Plaza. It crosses the Metropolitan Expressway. The Yamanote Line and other national railways pass underneath, and the monorail passes over it. We arrive at Hamamatsucho Station. You can also see Tokyo Tower. You can see Takanawa Gateway Station, which opened in March 2020, nine months ago. Although it is not in the picture, Tokyo Bay spreads out in the lower right. The camera zooms in on the excavated remains of the Takanawa embankment. It is a foundation made to lay railway tracks in the shallow waters of Tokyo Bay. This year, 2022, marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of railways in Japan. In June 1872, the section between Shinagawa and Yokohama (now Sakuragicho) was provisionally opened, and in October the entire planned line was opened to Shimbashi. Around May and June 150 years ago, the tracks were probably being laid on top of the Takanawa embankment. You can also see the waterway for ships to pass through.
