Sheikh Mansur was born in 1760 in the village of Aldy. His father Shabaz was from the village of Elistanzhi. Mansur (then called Ushurma) first delivered religious sermons in March 1785 to the residents of the village of Aldy. After the great success of his speeches, thousands of people began to flock to him not only from Chechnya, but also from other regions. In his sermons, Mansur proposed that people establish Sharia laws and spiritually purify themselves. He called for the rejection of blood feuds, quarrels and murders. He prohibited raids, thefts, alcohol and tobacco. In July 1785, Mansur led the highlanders in the first major battle with the Russian detachment under the command of Colonel Pieri. The highlanders won a brilliant victory in this battle. From 1785 to 1790, the highlanders under the command of Sheikh Mansur won many victories in the fight against the tsarist invaders. This was the first major liberation movement of the inhabitants of the North Caucasus. Despite the fact that the highlanders were poorly armed and had virtually no artillery, they won victories with their decisive actions against superior forces of a well-armed enemy. In all regions, Mansur preached the basics of Sharia, called for faith and brotherhood in Islam. In June 1791, the final, decisive stage in the struggle of the rebellious highlanders with the tsarist troops began. In September of the same year, Mansur returned to Chechnya to raise the Chechens and neighboring peoples to fight the invaders. He failed to raise the movement in Chechnya and Dagestan. He returned to Anapa. In 1791, on June 20-21, the Russian General Gudovich proposed that the defenders of Anapa, among whom was Sheikh Mansur, surrender the fortress. Mansur demanded that the commander of the fortress, Mustafa Pasha, give battle to the tsarist troops. However, on June 22, 1791, General Gudovich took the fortress of Anapa by storm, captured the commander of the fortress garrison, Mustafa Pasha, and captured the wounded Sheikh Mansur, who was immediately sent to St. Petersburg. On October 15, 1791, Sheikh Mansur was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Shlisselburg Fortress as a "rebel and dangerous state criminal for awakening the mountain peoples against Russia and causing great damage to the Empire." On April 13, 1794, Sheikh Mansur died in the Shlisselburg Fortress. His body was secretly buried on Preobrazhenskaya Mountain. Mansur began his preaching work as an imam, the leader of the Muslim community.
