He was one of the architects of the victory against Nazism, at the cost of millions of people dying of hunger. On the one hand, he created the first social protection mechanisms in his country, but on the other, he ordered the army to attack strikers. He fought against anti-Semitism, but believed that whites were a superior race that should “civilize” other people. For many people, Winston Churchill is revered for having helped build the world as we understand it today. But for others, he was a force for evil, who didn’t mind stepping on the necks of those most in need for the greatness of the empire he defended.
