Windmills are not just structures for grinding flour. They are the salt of the landscape of the Lithuanian plains and witnesses of history. Waving their wide wings, they enlivened the romantic impression and took over the space. Standing away from the settlements, they looked lonely but powerful, meeting the north wind with all their might. In towns, as if sensing their value, windmills often dared to compete even with churches in height. Since the First World War, new mills have been built in few places. They are usually moved, some even to the third or fourth place. Today, very few still have something to wave. And if you have it, there's nothing to worry about. It is recommended to visit the mills before they are completely destroyed, because e.g. in the entire Suvalkija region, there is only one surviving mill with authentic technological equipment - it is the Vištytis windmill.
