'Administrators who want something: we have to work together across party lines. Sometimes you have to go through the wall', says mayor of Utrecht and chair of the Association of Dutch Municipalities Sharon Dijksma about the government programme and the budget of municipalities. The cabinet has great ambitions regarding security of existence, but according to her the cabinet is letting municipalities down financially. Money cannot be spent twice. 'The moment all our money goes to healthcare, then we no longer have it for housing, for example. And certainly not for making housing affordable.' Regarding the safety of mayors, Dijksma states: 'I think there is a responsibility to be careful about making it personal.' In the discussion of Wilders' tweet she emphasises that mayors must be able to fulfil their duties freely. She is cautious and does not want to contribute further to 'standing against each other': 'Precisely because we have to make very difficult decisions every day in a society that seems completely polarised.' ➡ Subscribe to not miss anything and join the conversation: http://bit.ly/buitenhof-abonneren ➡ Watch another video about politics: https://bit.ly/buitenhofyt-politiek This video is from the broadcast of Buitenhof on October 13, 2024: https://bit.ly/buitenhof-13-okt-2024 About Buitenhof: Buitenhof discusses politics and current affairs in in-depth interviews, debates or discussions.
