The documentary film examines the question analytically and sheds light on over 500 years of Swiss economic history. If you ask on the streets of our northern neighbor why Switzerland is so rich, the answers are quick to hand: "Nazi gold and banking secrecy made the Swiss rich." It is not without envy that people in Germany realize that the average income in Switzerland is many times higher than that in Germany. On average, German employees earn 3,535 euros gross per month, while the Swiss earn 6,655 euros. A striking difference. But, as is often the case, it is worth taking a closer look. The film spans the period from the 15th century and the mercenary era, to the beginning of the 19th century, when people in Switzerland died of hunger and hundreds of thousands were forced to emigrate, to the present day, when the Alpine republic is also trying to keep up with digitalization.
