Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, CAR, Chad and Equatorial Guinea, which make up this area, have worrying macroeconomic indicators according to the International Monetary Fund. According to World Bank data, economic growth in the Cemac region has slowed to 1.7% in 2023, compared to 3.1% in 2022. And during the last Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Central African States (Beac) last September, Cemac's foreign exchange reserves were estimated at 6,539 billion CFA francs (or 4.5 months of imports), down 5% year-on-year, but at the beginning of the year, Beac was counting on a reduction of only 2.7%. Clearly, the Cemac zone is importing more and more. However, some voices are being raised to denounce what could be perceived as the discreet influence of France behind this threat of devaluation in view of the diplomatic orientations taken in recent years by all CEMAC countries. •How can we explain the IMF's incessant threats of devaluation on the CEMAC zone? •With countries with rich soil and subsoil.
