Due to early attachment trauma, we are used to repressing our needs, holding back and seeing ourselves as a burden. This under-mothering leads to later neediness, which manifests itself in greed, and the urge to want too much very quickly. We want unconditional love, which a pet can sometimes give us. But more importantly, we can give unconditional love ourselves. Then we regain our liveliness and lightness and make less effort for others in everyday life.
