In conversations between various constellations of Käufer, Schmidt, Lott and Thomsen, Stay Forever Technik explores historical developments and aspects of the technology that a PC, which is inherently a rather helpless machine when it comes to gaming, needs to represent exciting game worlds. In episode 1, Henner Thomsen and Gunnar Lott embark on a journey through the wonderful world of sound generation for the IBM PC. It starts with the PC speaker (beep! beep!), but the focus is on the Sound Blaster brand, which stands for computer sound like no other. Sound Blaster is the name of a series of computer sound cards from the Singaporean company Creative Labs. The first model, a plug-in card for installation in IBM-compatible PCs, appeared in November 1989 and was ahead of its competitors in its ability to create and play back digitized sound recordings. In the early 1990s, Sound Blaster cards established their own, market-dominating standard for sound reproduction on PCs, especially in computer games.
