What helps against burnout? Dr. Mirriam Prieß on the treatment, therapy and prevention of exhaustion. ????@SWR1Leute subscribe now! Anyone who burns out and is exhausted has lost their relationship with themselves, says psychotherapist Mirriam Prieß. She worked for eight years at a psychosomatic clinic in Hamburg. Her focus: anxiety, depression and burnout. She developed the approach that burnout results less from overload and more from missing or disturbed relationships. "A person is not perfect. A person can look for themselves to see what their form is and what is the best possible. But the moment I try to be perfect, I become inhuman. And that is what exhausts many people," says Mirriam Prieß in an interview. Every burnout means exhaustion, says the expert. Dr. Mirriam Prieß sees the search for the reasons for exhaustion as the central point on the path to healing. She sees the atmosphere in which we grow up, the interpersonal relationships, especially with our parents, as an important aspect. A healthy life takes place the more dialogue there is in relationships, even in childhood. Those who become exhausted later on have often had the opposite experience. According to Dr. Prieß, the following paths to satisfaction can be taken: 1. Intuition - listen to yourself, to your feelings: Am I ready to embark on a journey to myself, to find myself? 2. Balance - a good relationship consists of the balance between giving and taking. I always give as much as I give, and I take in “essentials”. People who become exhausted have given too much and taken in too much bad. 3. Setting boundaries - Where exhaustion occurs, there is no level playing field. People idealize things, make things smaller. Setting boundaries is an expression of love. Social networks are a phenomenon that leads to exhaustion. Confirmation comes constantly from outside, from everyone except yourself. If this confirmation is not given, you sink into a deep sense of inferiority. This lack of encounter leads to egocentrism. You need the other person to experience yourself. If you don't feel yourself, you constantly have to revolve around yourself - which in turn leads to exhaustion. In the interview, Dr. Priess also highlights three basic points that you can address when you are exhausted and ways out of exhaustion and burnout: 1. Look for something that makes you feel good. 2. Make sure there is a balance between giving and taking: if you give more than you take, or the other way around, it leads to exhaustion 3. Work on patterns that led to exhaustion. As a coach, Mirriam Prieß advises managers in the area of conflict and stress management. ___________________________________________________________ This is an official channel of the SWR1 radio program.
