Reviews of the economy, politics and history of the Baltic countries. Watch the issue: • Pribaltaets. "Destroyed" industrial... ("Destroyed" industry of the Baltic countries. Part 2") Contrary to the tales of Russian propaganda about the deindustrialization of the Baltic countries, the region has a fairly developed manufacturing industry, which, without exaggeration, involves thousands of different enterprises in all major sectors. In some ways, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania occupy a prominent place in the world market. And Russia, which is lagging behind them in industrial development, has exactly what it needs to catch up with the "poor and backward" "outskirts" of Europe. That is why the Russian Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) is hunting for the robotic mobile platforms THeMIS of the Estonian company Milrem Robotics, which were transferred to the Ukrainians, and is offering 2 million rubles to anyone who delivers it intact for study. The first part of the issue told a brief history of the post-Soviet development of the manufacturing industry of the Baltic countries and gave the most interesting examples of enterprises operating in the metallurgy, mechanical engineering and chemical industries. The second part deals with the most powerful industry of the region – woodworking and pulp and paper, which includes furniture, the production of building materials, light and food industries. But the main thing is the industry's aspiration for the future, what promising areas are developing today in the Baltic countries and give them a chance to join the club of advanced countries.
